Why Would You Get A Coffee Maker With A Hot Water Dispenser?

Good question. Some people may not have one and never wish they did. But having instant hot water can be a real blessing.

It’s Super Convenient

The convenience of walking into your kitchen, grabbing your mug and filling it instantly with hot water is awesome. You’re not going to be waiting for the kettle to boil anymore, and having instant hot water is going to free up more time for you

How much time do you think you spend every year waiting in your kitchen for hot water? Hours? Maybe days? Not anymore!

Saves Space

Why have a coffee maker, hot water dispenser and a kettle in your kitchen. That’s an inefficient use of space.

You may as well have a machine that does everything. You’ll be freeing up counter space and most probably saving some dollars too.

Especially if you’re living somewhere that’s limited for space, but you still want all those fancy kitchen appliances.

Better For The Flavour

Not only can you make tea instantly, but having a hot water dispenser is better for retaining all the taste and flavours from the leaves.

Boiling water can scorch the leaves, creating unwanted tinges to the flazvours.

What Factors To Consider

When looking for a coffee maker, there are certain things that you should be looking at to determine whether it’s the right fit for you.

Thermal or Glass Carafe?

When deciding what carafe you want, you need to ask yourself whether your priorities lie in aesthetics, or functionality.

Thermal carafes are great for keeping your coffee hot for hours on end. If you buy a really good one they can keep your coffee piping hot for 24 hours. This is great if you’re going out for the day, on long journeys, or don’t want to trip back and forth to the coffee maker all day.

However, they don’t look as nice as glass carafes. If you’re not too bothered about keeping coffee hot for hours then go for a glass carafe. I think they look much more stylish sitting in your kitchen.

They’ll retain the heat for a couple of hours but no more. If that’s enough time for you to get through the coffee, then a glass carafe will suit you well.

What Are The Brew Size Options?

Obviously this is a key question to ask. You don’t want to buy a coffee maker and then realise it doesn’t make the amount of coffee you’re after.

There are single serve coffee makers, ones that just brew carafes, or dual coffee makers that do both.

It’s important to find out what the serving size options are to make sure you’ll be happy with the quantity of coffee.

The Water Reservoir

Firstly you want to know how much water the water reservoir can hold. It can be annoying if it has a small capacity as you’ll be filling it up after every other cuppa.

It might be in your interest to get a water reservoir that’s removable too.

If you can’t remove it, you have to fill up a jug or cup and angle your pour into the water reservoir. Speaking from experience, this can be a messy job. Especially if you’re planning to keep your coffee maker underneath the top cupboards.

Being able to take it over to the sink and easily refill it is much more convenient.

Cleaning and Maintenance

A job that no one really likes doing is the clean up and maintaining your coffee maker, however it’s essential.

If a coffee maker is really easy to maintain and has a hassle free clean up process, we’re much more likely to do it.

Making sure we do this is important for the flavour of your coffee to remain full and fresh, but also for the life-span of the machine. Ideally, you want your coffee maker to last years as they’re expensive things. Looking after it properly will mean it’s going to last longer.

Having removable parts and being able to dismantle and put together easily is convenient. Plus, if certain parts are dishwasher friendly, well that’s even easier.

What Are The Dimensions?

If you’re living in a place with a limited kitchen surface, this is even more important.

Take note of the height, width and length of the coffee maker you’re thinking of getting and make sure it can fit in your kitchen somewhere, easily.

You don’t want to have to keep lifting it out of a cupboard every morning, or moving it around your kitchen to get your coffee. Coffee makers aren’t the lightest things to be shifting around every day.

If you’re wanting to place it underneath your top cupboards, make sure you allow enough room to get to the top, for when you’re inserting coffee or moving the water reservoir ect.

Does It Have A Water Line?

If, for example, you’re looking for a coffee maker in an office, or simply don’t want to keep refilling your water reservoir, you can consider getting a water line.

That means your coffee maker is hooked directly into the main water supply through a piping system.

The good thing with this is that if you’re running or coffee shop or drink a lot of coffee from home, you don’t have to worry about refilling. You can keep pouring yourself a brew and the shut-off valve will worry about keeping it topped up.

You will need to know how to connect the system to a water supply, so a bit of plumbing is needed. Plus, if you’re fussy about the water you make a coffee with, the public water supply is going to be lower quality than bottled.

You can fix this with a water filter though so it’s no big deal.

Best Coffee Maker With Hot Water Dispenser – The Reviews

Cuisinart CHW-12P1

best coffee maker with hot water dispenser

Key features:

  • 12 cup brewing capacity
  • Glass carafe
  • Single serve and carafe brewing options
  • Hot plate with temperature control options
  • Charcoal water filter
  • Brew Pause function
  • Water reservoir holds 54oz of water
  • 3 year warranty
  • 14.3 x 10.25 x 8.5 inches (H x W x D)

Cuisinart is a big name in the world of at-home coffee makers. Their products are reliable, durable, and often made with a great build quality. This is reflected with their generous 3 year warranty, which screams they have trust in their product.

The CHW-12P1 has a large water reservoir at 54oz of water, which means you won’t have to refill it often. That’s a good thing because it’s quite annoying to do so, with it not being removable.

It comes with some fancy features like auto shut-off and a carafe temperature control, which lets you set how hot you want the warming plate to be. Sometimes if it gets too hot, it can leave this burnt taste to your coffee so I quite like this feature.

The brew pause function also means you don’t have to wait for the entire carafe to fill up before you get your cuppa. Simply pause it once a cup worth of coffee has brewed, pour yourself a cuppa, and replace the carafe to continue the brewing process.

A solid machine with some great functions. However the bottom panel is prone to rust if it stays wet for too long after spillage. So that’s definitely something to care for when cleaning.

Keurig K Select

best coffee maker with hot water dispenser

Key features:

  • Single serve brewer
  • 6, 8, 10, 12oz brewing options
  • 52oz water reservoir
  • Removable water reservoir for easy refill
  • Really easy to use
  • ‘Strong brew’ function
  • 12.5 x 9.2 x 11.6 inches (H x W x D)
  • 1 year warranty

Keurig is another household name when it comes to home coffee makers. They’re the kings of coffee capsules and convenience. One of the big pros with the K Select is being able to pop in a K Cup, press a button and a minute later you can be sipping a brew.

You can get reusable coffee filters too if you still have a favourite pre-ground coffee. To dispense hot water, you simply lift the top up as if you were about to place a K Cup in, close it and select how much hot water you would like. It’s very easy.

The water reservoir is almost as large as the Cuisinart we’ve just reviewed, but is also removable. This makes cleaning and refilling it so much more easy.

You won’t be able to brew a large carafe with the K Select, so make sure the single serve options will satisfy your coffee drinking needs. A positive is that it comes in a range of different colours, so whatever the colour theme of your kitchen is, the K Select will fit right in.

Compared with other coffee makers, it doesn’t seem an incredibly well built machine, with the majority of complaints (but there aren’t too many) being on the build quality.

Ninja Hot And Cold Brew System

best coffee maker with hot water dispenser

Key features:

  • Single serve or carafe brewing options
  • Specifically designed for tea and coffee drinkers
  • 6 brew size options
  • Removable filter baskets for easy cleaning
  • Hot or cold milk frother
  • 15 x 10 x 11.8 inches (H x W x D)
  • 1 year warranty

If you or people in your house are as much of a tea drinker as a coffee drinker, well this is your perfect coffee maker.

Not only does it brew flavourful and delicious coffee, it also has options that are designed for brewing specifically tea. You have options for herbal, black, oolong, white and green tea.

As far as the coffee brewing options go, there are 6 different sizes from a single cup, to a travel carafe that you can take out and about with you. One thing I really like is that there are different baskets for tea and coffee, plus the system can recognize which basket has been inserted and display the brewing option accordingly.

There are also 5 different brewing strength options ranging from classic, rich, over ice, cold brew and speciality. The cold brew takes between 10-20 minutes and is a really great feature.

The fact it comes with a milk frother is the icing on the cake for me. So not only can it make tea and coffee, it can also make espresso based milk drinks like lattes or cappuccinos.

A great all around coffee maker for those that like to switch up their choice of hot drink.

Keurig K150

best coffee maker with hot water dispenser

Key features:

  • Single serve brewer
  • Designed for small to medium businesses
  • Five brewing size options
  • 90oz removable water reservoir
  • Colour touchscreen menu
  • Can be connected to public water supply
  • 1 year warranty
  • 14 x 10.5 x 13.5 inches (H x W x D)

The Keurig K150 is a commercial coffee maker that’s designed for offices or other businesses that require a lot of coffee. It produces single serve coffees in 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 ounce capacities.

The huge 90oz water reservoir capacity is a bonus as you don’t have to keep filling it up, and for times you do, it’s removable. If you order the coffee maker with the direct plumb kit you can hook the K150 up to the public water supply.

It comes with a few cool features such as an adjustable brew temperature, programmable auto on/off feature and you can choose from three different languages to walk through the menu in. This makes it ideal for such events like conferences where you might have people from different nationalities.

To use it for only hot water purposes, you simply have to brew it with a pod inserted in the top. Very simple.

Mr. Coffee BVMX-DMX85-RB

best coffee maker with hot water dispenser

Key features:

  • Single and carafe brewing options
  • Separate water reservoirs for each side
  • Brew pause function
  • Brew strength options
  • 1 year warranty
  •  15.9 x 12.9 x 11.15 inches (H x W x D)

The Mr. Coffee is a versatile brewer that can brew up to a 12 cup carafe, or pour you a 16oz cup of coffee, depending on what you’re wanting. It’s good there are two separate reservoirs for the single side and the carafe side, so you don’t have to keep filling up each one.

It comes with all the features like being able to brew at different strengths, and being able to pour yourself that first cup without having to wait for the entire carafe to brew.

The biggest flaw with the Mr. Coffee is the durability of the coffee maker. Although it has potential to be a great product with the features and many options, it lacks that build quality that it ought to have.

So yes it brews coffee and has an easy to use hot water dispenser, but maybe don’t expect for it to last many years. If anything does go wrong in the first year however, it’s covered under a one year warranty. For the price, you can’t ask for much more than that.

Conclusion

Having the option to brew coffee, tea and anything else that requires hot water, is certainly a convenience. There’s no more waiting around for kettles to boil, and you can have hot water in an instant.

Of course, it all depends on your budget and what you’re expecting from your coffee maker. However, if I had to choose, I’d go for the Ninja Hot and Cold Brewer.

It’s designed for the people that want just as much tea as they want coffee. Although it’s quite expensive, you get a quality build and beverage. It’s also going to save you money in the long run by not buying coffee when you’re out, and by not having to replace your coffee maker after a few months.
