What To Consider
Here are some important things to think about when deciding whether the Nespresso Vertuo Evoluo is the one for you.
When paying a lot for a coffee maker, you expect it to live up to expectations. The Nespresso sits at a very competitive price when considering all the different coffees it can brew and comparing it to others on the market.
If you get the Aeroccino milk frother with it, there aren’t a lot of coffee drinks it can’t make. They’ll be no need to visit Starbucks on your way to work each morning, as you’ll be able to make your latte from the comfort of your home.
Certainly good value for money considering the wide range of options and quality of the brew.
With regards to the build quality, there are no metal parts, but the plastic is strong and durable. I’d expect it to last a long time. There are certainly plenty of reviews online stating how they’ve had it years and it’s been working flawlessly.
There is a very generous 4 year warranty that comes with the Nespresso which screams to me they trust their product. As a general rule, I like to think the longer the warranty the more the company believes in its own quality.
There is no shortage of compliments on the quality of coffee either. They have a unique brewing technology that we’ll cover further down. It’s not a true pressurized espresso, however it gets very close to the real thing.
Something to note is the coffee isn’t brewed extra hot. I know some people like their coffee to be absolutely piping. If you can’t settle for anything less than coffee that burns your lips, then you might be a bit disappointed on the heat.
I love the crema that’s produced with each cup. It’s quite large. Much larger than you would get from an espresso machine but it’s super tasty and sweet, plus it looks beautiful when freshly brewed.
If you’re sick of having to drive to a cafe to get a coffee everytime you fancy one, getting the Nespresso allows you to make a great cuppa from home, without sacrificing on flavour and quality.
Dimensions: 11 x 8 x 12 inches (D x W x H)
It’s quite a compact machine, but make sure if you’re planning to keep it on your countertop you have room beneath the top cupboards. You’ll need to allow an extra few inches to be able to insert the pod comfortably.
If you don’t have the space for a big and bulky espresso machine, then this is ideal for offices or smaller spaces.
The Nespresso Evoluo is a smooth and stylish looking coffee maker which comes in a range of colours, like black, chrome, red and titan, allowing you to keep with the colour scheme of your kitchen.
Not only do you get a quality cuppa, but also a good looking and attractive coffee maker.
Super easy to use. Honestly, with the touch of one button your coffee will start brewing. No matter how tired you are on a morning, or how little sleep you’ve had, making a coffee couldn’t be easier.
The coffee machine adjusts the size of the brew depending on what pod you’ve put in. However, you can stop the process whenever or start it again to manually decide how much coffee you want.
Some coffee makers come with many buttons or a touchscreen which is easy to use, however not as simple as this. You may not get as many options, for example brew strength or temperature, but it’s hot enough and you can change your pod depending on how strong you like your coffee.
As far as coffee makers go, it’s incredibly simple to use.
Here are some of the things that make the Nespresso Evoluo stand out from the rest.
The Fancy Sounding ‘Centrifusion’ Extraction Technology
The Evoluo Vertuo uses a new extraction process that’s been developed and patented by Nespresso known as Centrifusion.
For each Vertuoline capsule that you put into the top, the barcode is read by the machine to determine the flow and volume of water, temperature, infusion and capsule rotation.
Basically, the capsule spins rapidly inside the compartment, up to 7000 times a minute. This is what gives you all that crema, as well as extracting every ounce of flavour from each pod. A very unique way of brewing.
Good For Energy Saving
The Evoluo is also great at saving a few dollars on your energy bills. Once you’ve got your coffee, the machine will stay on for an additional 9 minutes in case you want to use it again. After that, it’ll switch itself off.
This is great for a couple of reasons. Firstly, you’re not wasting energy to keep the coffee maker on unnecessarily. Secondly, you don’t have to remember to turn it off every morning before work.
If you’re like me and a bit forgetful, this is a great feature. It’s happened before where I leave to go to work, and on my way realise the coffee maker is still on, so this is a great feature for us forgetful folk!
You Heard Of The Aeroccino?
This is an optional extra, but in my opinion it’s worth it. It’s a milk frother that is separate to the actual coffee maker. The Aeroccino opens up a new world of coffee styles to have from your sofa.
If you enjoy drinking lattes, cappuccinos or flat whites then you’ll love this feature. It doesn’t give you the flexibility to froth the milk in different ways, but unless you want an espresso machine with a steam wand this is going to do just fine.
It’s super convenient, frothing milk in a minute or two with the press of a button. Plus you can choose whether you want it hot or cold.
Removable Water Reservoir – Very Handy
For ease of cleaning and refilling, it’s good to have a removable water reservoir. With a 54oz water capacity, it’s bigger than the average one meaning you don’t have to keep refilling it everytime you want a coffee.
I’d recommend filling it up each morning to keep the water fresh. Good water quality is also important for a flavourful coffee.
Adjustable And Removable Drip Tray
It may not be obvious why this is a good feature, but let me explain why it is.
If you’re often on long drives or going out for the day, you might want to take a large travel mug on your journey. Being able to remove the drip tray means you can fit very large mugs under the coffee maker.
You can also adjust the height of the drip tray for when you want espressos or large coffees like americanos. It avoids lots of splashing so you don’t have to clean up every time you brew.
Finally it’s handy for cleaning. Being able to move the drip tray into the sink is much easier than bringing a cloth or sponge over to the coffee maker.
Easy And Convenient Pod Insertion
To insert a pod, simply lift the top up and place the pod with the dome side going in first. Close the lid, twist the top to the left to lock it and voila, you’re ready to go. It couldn’t be easier.
Once you’ve finished brewing, make sure that you unlock and lift the top up to eject the pod from the hold. It’ll move into the spent pod compartment on the right hand side of the Nespresso machine. It can hold about 13 capsules so you’re good for a while.
It’s important not to leave the pod in the top as you can cause the ground coffee to build up and create a blockage, which is very annoying and frustrating to clean.
The Variety Of Pods
When you get your Nespresso Evoluo, you’ll also receive a welcome kit with coffee pods for you to try. It’s a great idea from Nespresso to help you figure out what coffee is your favourite before buying any more.
Their coffee is rich and smooth, with lots of options for flavours. If you have a favourite ground coffee that you still want to drink, you can find a reusable coffee pod that you fill up yourself. Make sure it’s compatible with this one particular coffee maker though.

Who Wouldn’t Get The Most Out Of The Nespresso Evoluo?
If you relate to any of these sentences, it might be worth looking at some other coffee makers before making your decision.
I Want To Brew Carafes Of Coffee
Although the Evoluo has lots of coffee drinking options, something it lacks is the ability to brew large quantities of coffee at one time.
If you live in a house with a lot of heavy coffee drinkers, you might prefer to brew a carafe each morning for everyone to help themselves, instead of making a single cup each time. Not only will you burn through pods quickly this way, which are expensive, it’ll save you time.
I Want An Auto-Brew Function
You may have seen or heard of a feature that lets you program what time you want the coffee maker to start brewing your coffee.
It’s a great feature if you have a busy morning routine, or if you want your coffee ready at the end of the family meal. Unfortunately, the Nespresso Evoluo doesn’t come with this feature even though there are plenty of reasons to still go for it.
If you really have your heart set on a timer, there are a lot of coffee makers here that have this feature.
The Pros and Cons
- It’s a pretty speedy brew taking 15 seconds to warm up and another 90 seconds until your coffee is ready
- Good build quality with solid, sturdy plastic
- Large 54oz water reservoir
- Super easy to use, very user friendly. I don’t think many people would struggle to figure it out
- The quality of the coffee is up there, but not like a true espresso machine
- Looks stylish and is pretty compact
- Comes with coffee pods to get you started
- Easy set up straight out of the box
- 5 different brew sizes depending on what capsule you use
- You are limited to using Vertuoline coffee pods, which are also expensive
- There’s no alert when the water gets low, and it’s difficult to see inside the water reservoir
- Drinks are not super hot, especially if you have a milk based drink
As far as home espresso machines go that aren’t the expensive pressurised espresso machines, this one’s top notch.
The Nespresso Evoluo has a great build quality and produces smooth, bold coffee with a delicious crema on top. The Aeroccino is a great addition. I love to drink lattes and cappuccinos and so this is a must for me.
All in all, it’s easy to use, easy to clean, stylish, good quality and doesn’t take up too much room.
If you’re still not convinced this is the coffee maker for you, you can check out some more reviews here, or there are some alternatives below.
The Keurig K Cafe is similar to the Evoluo with a couple of minor differences, the biggest one being in price. The milk frother is built into the coffee maker too. Heres our full review.
