Description

This is an incredibly special coffee. Grown on northern facing slopes in the Himalayas on the foothills of Mount Everest, this coffee not only brings you flavours from a new region of the world, but supports Nepalese farmers who have been adapting to their changing climate.

Nepalese farmers tend to grow bananas, paddy, and maize, but with the warmer temperatures these crops haven’t been doing so well. For over ten years now, The Glacier Trust (TGT) together with the project implementing agency, EcoHimal, have supported local farmers in remote Nepali villages in developing innovative, organic and climate conscious farming techniques. The purpose of this is to create stable and better incomes for local farmers, empower and improve the resilience of rural communities especially the women, prevent biodiversity loss, soil depletion, and landslides. We’re delighted to be the first roastery in the UK to offer you this coffee.

Scoring a whopping 83/100 by the SCA, this coffee is an incredibly beautiful cup. The coffee was certified organic in 2018, and although farming practices remain the same, the certification is too expensive for the famers to reapply for it. Notes of orange, toffee, and peach make this a well rounded espresso and filter coffee.

Deusa Cooperative

There are 113 farms in the Solukhumbu region. The coffea trees are intercropped with banana trees, is shade grown on north facing Himalayan slopes, and free from pesticides and fertilisers. Once the cherries are ripe and hand picked, they are taken to the Deusa Cooperative, where all the coffee from the region is processed and milled by the local community.

From there, the cooperative sell the coffee to a brand new roastery in Solukhumbu, which supplies cafes in Katmandu, keeping more revenue within the community. As growers have been producing more and more coffee each year, there is now enough for them to export, helping their economy even more, and allowing us to get our hands on some of their incredible coffee.
